How it works

When your live-service game shuts down, we find the refunds the law says you’re owed.

Live-service games shut down and take paid currency with them. Despawn reads every end-of-service notice, matches it to the law where you play, and builds a statement of what you can claim and by when. Japan makes publishers refund unused paid currency, and Despawn reminds you before the window shuts.

  1. Step 01

    Watches every shutdown notice

Agents crawl end-of-service notices in Japanese, English and Korean and parse each refund term and deadline.

  2. Step 02

    Builds your statement

Upload your own store purchase exports and get a per-game statement: unused paid currency, passes inside the refund window, and deadlines.

  3. Step 03

    Pre-fills the publisher’s form

Despawn fills in the publisher’s own refund form and you submit it yourself. US and EU players also get a dispute pack.

What you get

Built for players of shutting-down mobile and live games.

01

A free shutdown radar

Every end-of-service notice we can find, with refund terms and deadlines, in a public tracker that ranks publishers.

02

A per-game claim statement

What you’re owed, read from your own purchase history, and the date the window closes.

03

Pre-filled claim packs

The publisher’s own refund form, filled in for you to submit, plus firms and consumer groups already acting on that game.

First up: Free ‘what you’re owed’ pages for games with a live refund deadline, starting with The New Denpa Men, Mario Kart Tour, New World and Eras & Allies.

Why now

The world just changed.

What changed, and where it was reported.

  1. The New Denpa Men ends service on 2026-12-07, and unused paid currency will be refunded under Article 20(1) of Japan’s Payment Services Act. The window opens after shutdown, so players must keep their Support ID.

    PocketGamer.biz
  2. French consumer group UFC-Que Choisir sued Ubisoft over shutting down and revoking The Crew, backed by the Stop Killing Games movement.

    GamingOnLinux
  3. The European Commission declined to legislate on the Stop Destroying Videogames initiative, about 1.29M verified signatures, saying EU consumer law already protects players.

What a person does

A Japanese bengoshi and a California consumer lawyer review the claim templates and the not-legal-advice line. In Japan only lawyers may handle legal matters for a fee, so you file every claim yourself. Any lawsuit is yours or a consumer group’s.

Edgy, on purpose. Here’s the line we don’t cross.

Players claim only refunds a statute or the publisher’s own end-of-service policy gives them, and submit each claim themselves. No claim without that basis, no chargebacks for currency already spent, no representing players for a fee in Japan, and no share of anything recovered.

Questions

Do you file the claim for me?

No. Despawn pre-fills the publisher’s own form and you press submit. In Japan only lawyers may handle legal matters for a fee, so we stay a self-service tool everywhere.

Can I get back currency I already spent?

No. The refunds we track cover things like unused paid currency and recent passes, as a statute or policy sets out. We never use chargebacks to claw back currency you already spent.

Could a refund window close before you see it?

It can happen. Some windows open only after shutdown and close fast, so the radar sends reminders. Keep your own account details, such as a Support ID.
